NYU Forum on Educational Theatre | DaTEAsia Vol. 6
NYU Forum on Educational Theatre is the 13th annual forum held by the Program in Educational Theatre, NYU Steinhardt. The Forum attracted over 120 delegates from North America and Asia-Pacific regions, and a small attendance of postgraduates. There were about 70 paper and narrative presentations, and 50 workshops and performances.
Inter-Asia Cultural Studies (IACS) Conference 2015 Undercurrents: Unearthing Hidden Social and Discursive Practices | DaTEAsia Vol. 5
I was propelled to review the Inter-Asia Cultural Studies (IACS) Conference 2015 partly because of my trainings in both cultural studies and drama education, and partly because of the few amazing drama and theatre works presented in the conference. This fifth IACS Conference was organized by Inter-Asia Cultural Studies Society in collaboration with University of Indonesia and Airlangga University. The three-day conference drew together more than 350 scholars and practitioners from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea and Japan to share their practices and to discuss and analyze urgent issues emerging in Asia.
The Possibility of Developing Drama Therapy in Chinese Society: Viewpoints of “2012 China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, the Conference and Workshops for Drama Therapy and Education”|DaTEAsia Vol. 3
“2012 China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, The Conference and Workshops for Drama Therapy and Education” was held in Department of Drama at the National Taiwan University of Arts from 9th March, 2012 to 11th March, 2012. Famous contemporary scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan were invited to deliver their keynote speeches in drama therapy and to hold workshops to demonstrate in practice their knowledge. The focus of this conference was to reach a consensus in the application of drama education and drama therapy in order to explore and build up the application of drama in a wider scope. Another focus of this conference was to facilitate the development as well as the recognition of the professionalism of the Association for Drama Therapy across Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The Review of the Second International Conference of Performance Studies & Educational Theatre|DaTEAsia Vol. 2
The Second International Conference of Performance Studies & Educational Theatre, sponsored by the Shanghai Theatre Academy, was held on 4-6 June 2010. The conference was to update on the achievement in the areas of theatre education and social performance in China and abroad; to discuss the viability of theatre education, particularly in a Chinese context; to envision the prospects and direction of training in social performance. In addition, the conference explored two major themes: 1. Theatre education – A Chinese model as applied to drama education and callisthenic exercise based on Chinese operatic movements; 2. Teaching of Social Performance: Applications to societal and commercial organizations.
2010 International Conference of Drama Education and Application— The Representation of Locality and Multicultures|DaTEAsia Vol. 2
The 2010 International Conference on Drama Education and Application— The Representation of Locality and Multicultures, organized by the Department of Drama Creation and Application of the National University of Tainan was held November 2010. The theme of the conference was on a review and outlook of the development of theatre education and applied theatre in Asia, on sharing experiences as they were practiced in Asia, and on reflecting on the process of localizing western and worldwide experiences. Through exchange among practitioners and academics from Taiwan and abroad, the conference offered a venue to further an understanding of theatre as an instrument of social development.
Drama Therapy in Rehabilitating Post-earthquake Sichuan|DaTEAsia Vol. 2
People’s theatre can take myriad forms, but in synthesizing drama therapy and psychological healing, especially applied in post-disaster rehabilitation, it is a new initiative. The process proved to be effective as an instrument to help participants in self-assessment and target setting. Through participation, players experience their self-worth and the blessedness of living.
