Concept of “Cultural Diversity” in Hong Kong
To our project, “Cultural Diversity” means the respect of variety of human culture. It values the uniqueness of communities, and it should be everyone’s right to enjoy with respect. Facing a globalized, monopolized and rapidly changing world in the 21st century, it becomes more important and essential to everyone, especially for those who are oppressed and being marginalized.
Hong Kong is named as an “international and cultural diverse city”. However, our public space is limited and so as the opportunity to voice out and to be listened. Our political system, education system, living environment does not favor people to think, to speak out and to express opinions. Through this project, we would like to encourage everyone to express their views, through art, which is a basic language of human kind. Moreover, we encourage participants to paid attention to others, and it is a crucial communication process towards participatory democracy.
Goal of the Project
- Encourage people from different walks of life to develop their sense of community through participating in collaborative and creative art activities, and develop their own community art
- Promote practice of cultural diversity through community art in Hong Kong local communities
